Shot by Annie Leibovitz (of course), America's foremost actress graces the cover of the January 2012 issue of Vogue to promote her latest incarnation as the ever controversial Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady. At age 62, Streep is the oldest cover model in the magazine's history. She appears serene, wearing casual designs by designers like Michael Kors and Carolina Herrera. It is a welcome change of pace for the magazine to have a mature woman of substance and accomplishment, rather than a starlet, appear on the cover. Click here to read the interview and see the rest of the shoot. Videos from some of Streep's most memorable roles after the jump.

Iron Lady: Georgia May Jagger as Margaret Thatcher for Harper's Bazaar
In Burberry Prorsum A witty spread by the always playful, provocative and at times notorious photographer Terry Richardson, featuring the luscious lipped model (daughter of Mick) channeling a woman who has brought out as many polarized reactions as one person possibly could. The spread features the ladylike fashions of Carolina Herrera, Salvatore Ferragamo, Moschino and Valentino among many others, and while it functions as a tongue-in-cheek, slightly irreverent fashion spread, it also raises the question; how much do the clothes make the woman? Just how much of power is established by the way one dresses and how the public perceives them? Would the Kennedys or the Obamas have made it if they hadn't been chic couples? If Hilary Clinton were "prettier" or dressed better would she be President? Who knows. For know enjoy the rest of the spread here and read the brilliant Suzy Menkes' article on Thatcher's real life style (in both fashion and politics) here. |
