Selling: Mia for Miu Miu

Australian actress Mia Wasikowska is best know for playing the classic heroines Alice in Wonderland and Jane Eyre, as well as Annette Benning and Julianne Moore's teenage daughter in The Kids Are All Right, but her greatest role so far may be as the face of Miu Miu's Spring 2012 campaign. The photos capture a bit of the collection's dark romance. More after the jump.

Actress: Meryl Streep on the cover of 'Vogue'

Shot by Annie Leibovitz (of course), America's foremost actress graces the cover of the January 2012 issue of Vogue to promote her latest incarnation as the ever controversial Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady. At age 62, Streep is the oldest cover model in the magazine's history. She appears serene, wearing casual designs by designers like Michael Kors and Carolina Herrera. It is a welcome change of pace for the magazine to have a mature woman of substance and accomplishment, rather than a starlet, appear on the cover. Click here to read the interview and see the rest of the shoot. Videos from some of Streep's most memorable roles after the jump.

Actriz: Penélope Cruz for the Fall Issue of 'V' Magazine

In Ralph Lauren

“I feel like an actress who is very fortunate to get work with continuity, to get opportunities to make a living from the job that I love so much.”
-Cruz on her career.

Penélope Cruz looks every bit the part of post-modern screen diva. Her mentor, Pedro Almodóvar, would be so proud. The actress discusses her career and some of her recent film choices, celebrity, and just barely hints at her personal life. Read it here.

No really, how does she do it? SJP for Vogue's annual 'Age Issue'

In Burberry Prorsum
"I love the opportunity to wear something really special and go to a wonderful event at some great cultural institution....Not to sound too Pollyanna about it, but I really didn't imagine when I was a little girl that I would be there to see it all myself."
-SJP on wearing archival Alexander McQueen to the Met Gala

Sarah Jessica Parker may be in her forties, but she still has all the girlish energy and ambition to run a small fashion empire (her fragrances), a production company (Pretty Matches, which produced Bravo's Work of Art), still be a leading lady (starring in the upcoming romantic comedy I Don't Know How She Does It), and maintain, even enlarge, a loving family.

That family appears with her in Vogue (previewed below), photographed by Mario Testino. It is suffice to say they look adorable as SJ plays sophisticated mother of the year in Bottega Venata, Chanel, Proenza Schouler, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs and Oscar de la Renta.

In Marc Jacobs, with her adorable twin daughters.

15 Minutes: Edie Sedgwick

What happens to 'it' girls? The results can be tragic. Many of them burn too brightly, too fast. Some of them burn themselves out.

Socialite Edie Sedgwick had all the potential and aspirations to be a star, as a model or as an actress. She was a style icon for the brief period when she was one of the Factory's original Superstars, known for her black tights, large earrings, little shirt dresses, giant hats, silver hair and dark, dark make-up. Her style bares some resemblance to Twiggy's mod-look, but not as neat, not as meticulously put together, not really high fashion. Edie was more of a live-wire, more of a personality.

The Woman Who Fell to Earth: Tilda Swinton in 'W'

In Salvatore Ferragamo
“David Bowie—whom I’ve been orbiting ever since I saw The Man Who Fell to Earth in 1976—and my father, Maj. Gen. Sir John Swinton. They are individuals with whom I share the same planetary DNA.”
-Tilda Swinton on her style Icons.

Our most captivating androgynous actress channels '70s era Bowie in a spacey spread titled "Planet Tilda" photographed by Tim Walker. See it here. It is quite brilliant, a reminder of fashion's ability to go beyond...

Très chic cinema: I Am Love

Sumptuous romantic melodramas are not as frequently seen on movie screens as they were in the days of Douglas Sirk and Technicolor. It's even harder to see one that features a strong female lead with a killer wardrobe. That's too bad, since cinema is about fantasy, and what is more fantastical than a uniquely beautiful woman romantically suffering in lush Milanese fashions?

Tilda Swinton stars as a Russian immigrant who has assimilated into the role of bourgeois Milanese housewife only to find her passionate side awakened by the family's earthy cook. Her exquisite minimalist wardrobe is by Jil Sander, and her luxurious bags are Fendi, two of the ultimate houses of Italian fashion.

Swinton has hardly ever been better, and certainly she has never been so glamorous. Her androgynous beauty paired with how she intellectualizes her romantic suffering is reminiscent of Garbo in her thirties melodramas. Also, Marisa Berenson is in it, and she still looks amazing for a woman of her age. You should see it, or at least check out the trailer below.
